In baseball parlance, it’s called the hit-and-run. Technically, it’s a play where the base runner on first leaves for second base when the ball is pitched and the batter tries to hit the ball to the right side, advancing the runner. It’s one of the more exciting offensive plays in baseball and its success is dependent on a total commitment to the play by both the batter and hitter; if either hesitates, failure is almost certain.
